Capacity Building Overview

Capacity-building assistance (CBA) is a system-wide, integrated approach that improves the treatment outcomes for HIV-infected patients.  By expanding the core-competencies of providers and strengthening institutional infrastructure outcomes for HIV-infected patients are improved based on these interventions.

Features of Capacity Building Assistance

  • Needs Assessment – In each category of clinic performance, data are collected to identify areas where assistance should be directed and to establish baseline performance levels for tracking improvements.  Data is collected utilizing the NMAETC developed Capacity Building Assistance / Organization Self Assessment (CBA / OSA) tool.
  • Needs are gauged by the use of performance indicators which measure practice compliance with the established standards for each category.
  • Tailored interventions are delivered to remedy deficiencies in performance. The impact of the intervention is quantified through continuous periodic tracking of indicators.
