NMAETC - National Minority AIDS Education and Training Center

BESAFE Web Rom

The National Minority AIDS Education and Training Center has developed a new approach to training development aimed at clinicians who treat minorities living with HIV/AIDS. Traditionally, training materials have been developed using books, CDs and other media which provides the clinician with information on the most current techniques and methodologies. However, due to new developments in treatment and cultural competent patient engagement, by the time these tools are developed, they are often outdated.

In the case of the BESAFE model developed by NMAETC, we discovered that in addition to having a faster and more economical approach to providing the most up-to-date information to clinicians and community based organizations, it was also important to offer a more structured, menu driven curriculum. Through the use of WEB ROM technology, a web updateable modular approach to training provides a self paced easily navigated series of courses which are targeted toward a variety of audiences.

Although healthcare and community organizations can take part in group BESAFE training sessions, NMAETC is looking to develop course level approved BESAFE Trainers who will in turn offer consistent training sessions to clinicians and CBOs nationwide. This approach is based on the traditional “train the trainer” method but enhanced with software supported training aides. All supporting training materials and direction are provided via the Web Rom media and new updates are provided to trainers via an update button embedded within the product.

The progress of each participant is tracked through the web engine associated with this product. Reminders to the participant are provided to continue and complete the course work and a summary of progress is available to both the participant and the National Office staff of NMAETC.
